I’m So Tempted to Start a YouTube Channel… But Where Do I Begin?

Lately, I’ve found myself daydreaming about starting a YouTube channel. I’ve always loved creating content, whether it’s for my podcast, Artifacts & Anecdotes, or sharing my photography with friends. But YouTube? It feels like a whole new world. And to be honest, I’m a little unsure about where to even start.

I’ve been tossing around some ideas in my mind. Some of them exciting, some of them a little out there, but all of them are things I’m passionate about. Here are just a few of the thoughts I’ve been thinking about:

Photography Vlogs & Tutorials: As many of you know, photography has become a big part of my life. What if I shared tips, behind-the-scenes glimpses of my photo shoots, or just my personal journey as I explore different techniques and styles? Maybe I could do a photography challenge or talk about my process for creating self-portraits. This could be a fun and creative outlet!

Personality frameworks like MTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) and the Enneagram: These systems have always fascinated me, especially as an INFJ and Enneagram Type 4. I think it could be really interesting to explore how different personality types from both frameworks interact and approach the world, whether it’s in relationships, careers, or personal growth. I could create videos comparing and contrasting types, giving practical tips for improving communication, and offering insights on how to use these tools for better self-awareness and personal development. Since many people are interested in understanding themselves better, I feel like this could be a really relatable and helpful topic, and it might even help others in their own journeys of self-discovery. But again, I’m still figuring out how best to present this in a way that feels both educational and engaging.

History & Culture Deep Dives: Another idea that keeps coming up is sharing more of the history behind artifacts, events, or even music. This would be a natural extension of Artifacts & Anecdotes since I already love diving deep into history. I could even bring in visuals – photos, illustrations, or artifacts- to really bring the stories to life. Imagine a mini-documentary style of video where I tell the story behind a cultural artifact or a historical moment. Sounds fun, right?

Personal Growth & Behind the Scenes: As I’m juggling my career, my podcast, my photography, and personal life, I often feel like I’m on a rollercoaster. What if I started a “day in the life” vlog, showing how I balance it all? I could share my struggles, my wins, and everything in between, and maybe it would resonate with others who are also trying to manage their passions alongside their day-to-day responsibilities. Plus, I’ve been working on overcoming a lot of personal challenges lately, and sharing that journey might be helpful to others going through similar things.

Music & History: Given my background as a classical musician, I’ve been thinking about combining history with music. Perhaps I could do a series discussing the origins and significance of various classical pieces, or even how music has intersected with historical events. It would be a unique way to tie in my love for both history and music.

The thing is, I don’t know where to start. Should I dive into one of these topics and create a single video, or should I experiment with a few different ideas before committing to one direction? There’s so much potential, but also so many things to consider, especially the time and effort that goes into creating content.

I’m excited by the idea of bringing some of these passions to YouTube, but I’m also a bit overwhelmed by the endless possibilities. I’d love to know, what do you think? Which direction would be the most interesting to you? Or, do you have any advice on how to get started without feeling like I need everything figured out right away?

I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
