I finally did it!! I made Spam musubi for the very first time, and I even filmed the process! I’d been curious about this dish for a while, and I thought, why not try it and take you along with me? It was so much fun.

I used the New York Times recipe (link below). The ingredients are simple: Spam, rice, seaweed, soy sauce, brown sugar, and a splash of mirin.
In the video, you’ll see me slice and fry the Spam, add that glossy sweet and salty sauce, and then attempt to shape everything into neat little rectangles. It felt like edible arts and crafts.
The best part, though, was the taste test. That first bite had me hooked – salty Spam, sticky rice, and crisp nori all coming together in the best way. I finally understand why people love Spam musubi so much.
I’m calling this a win.
